La Procuradora General de la Nación, Margarita Cabello, emitió un comunicado en el que expresó su firme rechazo a la designación de Daniel Mendoza como embajador en Tailandia, debido a los polémicos trinos en los que hace apología a conductas sexuales abusivas. Cabello indicó que Mendoza carece de los estándares éticos necesarios para ocupar un cargo diplomático de tal relevancia.
“Como Procuradora General de la Nación, expreso mi rechazo por la designación de Daniel Mendoza como embajador. Su perfil y conducta pública no solo carecen de los estándares éticos requeridos, sino que también representan un retroceso en los avances por la igualdad de género y la dignidad de las mujeres, niñas, niños y adolescentes”, señaló la jefa del Ministerio Público.
La Procuraduría enfatizó que la representación diplomática debe reflejar integridad, transparencia y respeto por los valores fundamentales. En ese sentido, pidió al Gobierno reconsiderar esta decisión en beneficio de la imagen y los intereses del país.
La designación de Daniel Mendoza, conocido por su trabajo en la serie web “Matarife”, ha generado gran controversia. Inicialmente, la polémica se desató por unas fotografías en las que aparece desnudo junto a varias mujeres. Sin embargo, en los últimos días, las críticas se han intensificado debido a una serie de publicaciones en su cuenta de X (anteriormente Twitter), realizadas entre 2015 y 2017, en las que hace referencias perturbadoras, involucrando a niñas, mujeres en estado de indefensión, drogas y conductas inapropiadas.
Ante el rechazo público, el presidente Gustavo Petro defendió su decisión de nombrar a Mendoza en un evento en Barranquilla, argumentando: “Dicen que no puedo nombrar al señor Mendoza, el que hizo el Matarife, porque salieron unas fotos desnudo con unas señoras. Las señoras no dicen que fue a la fuerza, sino que les gustó el momento”.
