El escolta Brayan Michel Ramírez Suárez, de 28 años y originario de Urumita, La Guajira, fue enviado a prisión tras ser capturado en el aeropuerto Las Brujas de Corozal, Sucre, el 24 de enero de 2025, tras un tiroteo fatal en el que murió el subteniente Nicolás Reyes Valencia. A pesar de los esfuerzos de su defensa para evitar la medida de encarcelamiento, un juez del Juzgado Promiscuo Municipal de El Guamo, Bolívar, determinó que no se había probado suficiente justificación para evitar la privación de libertad.
El incidente ocurrió en el municipio de Zambrano, Bolívar, donde el subteniente Reyes, quien había asumido su puesto como comandante de la Policía apenas días antes, se encontraba realizando labores de seguridad en el aterrizaje de una aeronave con una importante suma de dinero destinada a un banco local. Durante el procedimiento, Ramírez Suárez, quien se desempeñaba como escolta del helicóptero, reaccionó de manera violenta al ver al oficial manipulando su arma de dotación y le disparó en repetidas ocasiones, causándole la muerte de manera instantánea.
Según el secretario de Seguridad de Bolívar, el helicóptero despegó tras el crimen, pero fue interceptado posteriormente en el aeropuerto de Corozal, donde Ramírez Suárez fue arrestado por homicidio agravado. Los abogados del escolta argumentaron que su encarcelamiento afectaría gravemente a su familia, ya que él es el principal sostén económico del hogar. Sin embargo, estos argumentos no fueron suficientes para que el juez revocara la orden de prisión preventiva.
El caso ha causado gran conmoción en la comunidad de Bolívar, especialmente porque Reyes había sido destacado por su compromiso con la seguridad ciudadana. Su familia, además, confirmó que el 25 de enero habría celebrado su cumpleaños número 23. En señal de respeto y luto, la Alcaldía de Zambrano decretó duelo municipal y suspendió las corridas de toros programadas para el 24 de enero.
Las autoridades siguen investigando los detalles del crimen y la relación entre los involucrados, mientras que la comunidad bolivarense sigue consternada por este trágico suceso.
