La deuda externa de Colombia, que comprende los compromisos financieros de los sectores público y privado, alcanzó en octubre de 2024 la suma de USD197.628,27 millones, según el Banco de la República. Esta cifra representa un incremento de USD233,06 millones (0,1 %) respecto a septiembre, aunque se mantiene en una tendencia general a la baja durante gran parte del año.
Participación en el PIB y distribución por sectores
La deuda externa equivale al 47,92 % del Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) del país. De esta cifra, el sector privado mostró un incremento notable, pasando de USD85.347,11 millones en septiembre a USD86.415,03 millones en octubre, alcanzando el 21 % del PIB.
En contraste, la deuda pública experimentó una leve reducción, descendiendo de USD112.048,09 millones a USD111.213,2 millones, con una participación del 27 % del PIB.
Instrumentos de endeudamiento: préstamos y bonos en la mira
Entre los instrumentos de financiación, los préstamos continúan liderando, con USD91.876 millones en compromisos a largo plazo y USD25.331 millones en deuda a corto plazo. Sin embargo, los bonos mostraron el crecimiento más significativo, aumentando en USD700 millones durante octubre. Por otro lado, el crédito comercial se redujo drásticamente, pasando de USD370 millones en septiembre a solo USD65 millones en octubre.
Presupuesto para 2025: desafíos en el servicio de la deuda
De cara a 2025, el Gobierno colombiano deberá destinar un total de $112,9 billones al servicio de la deuda, incluyendo $20 billones correspondientes a deuda externa. Este escenario fiscal plantea desafíos significativos, especialmente en un contexto de ajustes presupuestarios y fluctuaciones económicas internacionales.
El ministro de Hacienda, en recientes declaraciones, aseguró que el manejo de la deuda será una prioridad para garantizar la sostenibilidad fiscal. “Nuestro objetivo es mantener un equilibrio entre la financiación de los compromisos externos y la inversión en programas sociales clave para el desarrollo del país”, señaló.
Tendencias y perspectivas
Aunque octubre mostró un leve incremento en la deuda externa, los analistas destacan que, salvo algunos meses puntuales como enero, abril y julio, la tendencia anual ha sido de reducción. Esto refleja esfuerzos por parte del Gobierno y del sector privado para optimizar el manejo de sus compromisos financieros.
A pesar de los avances, el panorama sigue siendo complejo. Factores como el aumento en las tasas de interés internacionales, la fluctuación del dólar y los desafíos en la recaudación fiscal podrían influir en la capacidad del país para enfrentar sus obligaciones en 2025.
Colombia enfrenta un año decisivo en términos de sostenibilidad financiera. Mientras busca estabilizar su deuda externa, las autoridades deberán equilibrar las necesidades de desarrollo económico y social con los compromisos internacionales.
