El presidente de Colombia, Gustavo Petro, realizará este miércoles un viaje oficial a Haití, donde se reunirá en la ciudad de Jacmel, al sureste del país, con su homólogo haitiano Leslie Voltaire. Según confirmó la Cancillería colombiana este martes, el objetivo principal del encuentro será la firma de acuerdos de cooperación e inversión que fortalecerán la relación entre ambos países.
El viceministro colombiano de Relaciones Exteriores, Jorge Rojas, afirmó a través de su cuenta en X: “Este 22 de enero se reúnen en Jacmel los presidentes Leslie Voltaire y Gustavo Petro para reafirmar la relación entre los dos países hermanados por la libertad”. Rojas ya se encuentra en Haití, donde participó desde ayer en una reunión binacional de ministros para ultimar los detalles de los acuerdos que serán ratificados por los mandatarios.
En total, se trabajará sobre siete acuerdos de cooperación que abarcan áreas clave como paz, seguridad, justicia, migración, economía, educación y cultura. La visita de Petro también tiene un significado histórico, ya que Jacmel es conocida por ser un lugar emblemático en la vida del Libertador Simón Bolívar. Allí, Jorge Rojas sostuvo un encuentro con el presidente del Consejo Presidencial de Transición de Haití, Leslie Voltaire.
El Gobierno haitiano anunció oficialmente la llegada del mandatario colombiano, destacando el interés de ambas naciones en reforzar sus lazos históricos y estratégicos. “Haití es la cuna de la libertad de América (…) Dos pueblos que comparten la historia de la independencia”, señaló Rojas.
Esta visita ocurre poco después del Consejo Binacional de Ministros Colombia-Haití celebrado en diciembre en Riohacha, Colombia, donde se discutieron diversos temas de cooperación bilateral. En ausencia del canciller colombiano Luis Gilberto Murillo, quien esta semana participa en una reunión del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU en Nueva York, Jorge Rojas representará a la Cancillería durante esta visita.
Además, Murillo presentó recientemente su renuncia, y será reemplazado a partir del 1 de febrero por Laura Sarabia, actual directora del Departamento Administrativo de la Presidencia y una de las personas más cercanas al presidente Petro. La visita de Petro marca un nuevo paso en la relación entre Colombia y Haití, orientada hacia un futuro de colaboración mutua.
