El senador David Luna oficializó su renuncia al Congreso de la República y al partido Cambio Radical, con el objetivo de postularse como candidato a la Presidencia en las elecciones de 2026. La decisión, comunicada a través de una carta, subraya su compromiso con la transparencia y su intención de liderar un movimiento ciudadano en defensa de la democracia colombiana.
Luna explicó que su dimisión responde al deseo de garantizar que su campaña no utilice recursos públicos y de evitar inhabilidades legales, ya que considera presentar su candidatura a través de la recolección de firmas.
Un frente ciudadano contra el populismo
En su declaración, Luna señaló que su principal propósito es enfrentar lo que califica como un intento del presidente Gustavo Petro de perpetuarse en el poder.
“Asumo el compromiso de liderar un frente ciudadano para enfrentar el proyecto político de Gustavo Petro y sus intenciones de prolongarlo durante muchos años más. Si no actuamos ahora, corremos el riesgo de repetir la historia de Venezuela, donde el populismo destruyó las instituciones y las libertades fundamentales”, afirmó.
Luna se mostró decidido a evitar un posible desmantelamiento de las instituciones y a fortalecer las relaciones internacionales, haciendo referencia a la reciente crisis diplomática entre Colombia y Estados Unidos.
“Trabajaré para investigar, denunciar y bloquear cualquier intento de desmantelar nuestras instituciones y relaciones internacionales. Defender las libertades y garantizar el respeto por el Estado de derecho son prioridades que deben trascender cualquier interés político”, añadió.

Respuesta de Cambio Radical y futuro en el Senado
El partido Cambio Radical aceptó la renuncia de Luna, agradeciéndole su trabajo en el Congreso. En un comunicado, la colectividad expresó:
“Nos permitimos informarle que su renuncia ha sido aceptada a partir de la fecha. Agradecemos su labor en el Senado y le deseamos éxitos en sus nuevos retos”.

La curul vacante será ocupada por César Lorduy, actual magistrado del Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE), quien está a la espera de que el Congreso apruebe su renuncia a ese organismo para asumir el escaño.
Una campaña en defensa de la democracia
Luna concluyó su anuncio subrayando que su candidatura buscará garantizar un futuro libre y próspero para Colombia:
“Colombia tiene un camino de progreso por recorrer, y no permitiré que nos lo arrebaten. Estoy convencido de que juntos podemos construir un país democrático, fuerte y con oportunidades para todos”.
Con esta decisión, David Luna se suma a la lista de líderes que comienzan a perfilarse como aspirantes en las próximas elecciones presidenciales, marcando desde ya el inicio del debate político rumbo a 2026.
