Daniel Mendoza, escritor y productor audiovisual, quien rechazó recientemente la propuesta del presidente Gustavo Petro para ocupar el cargo de embajador de Colombia en Tailandia, ha respondido a las declaraciones del canciller Luis Gilberto Murillo, quien calificó su designación como “inviable”.
En su versión, Mendoza asegura que desde un principio el canciller sabía acerca de su nombramiento y que el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores había aprobado el beneplácito para el cargo. Sin embargo, luego de las críticas que surgieron en redes sociales por sus comentarios misóginos y por la percepción de que no estaba preparado para el cargo, Murillo se desmarcó de la decisión presidencial.
“Fui el primero en decirle al presidente Petro que era inviable. Usted puede estar de acuerdo o no, pero el tema es muy complejo, especialmente con las mujeres. Eso es inviable, pero la decisión final fue del presidente, no mía”, afirmó Murillo.
Mendoza, por su parte, detalló que, a pesar de la posterior distensión, continuó en contacto con el canciller, quien lo guió sobre los procedimientos administrativos y los trámites necesarios para formalizar su nombramiento. Mendoza indicó que la solicitud del beneplácito al Gobierno de Tailandia fue uno de los pasos gestionados por él y Laura, quien trabaja en el despacho del viceministro.
La controversia en torno al nombramiento de Mendoza como embajador estalló después de que se difundieran sus comentarios previos en redes sociales, que fueron considerados ofensivos por muchos, sumado a la discusión sobre su falta de experiencia en diplomacia. Este episodio ha puesto en evidencia las tensiones dentro del gobierno de Petro en cuanto a los nombramientos diplomáticos y la gestión de la política exterior del país.
