Un incidente polémico y sin precedentes sacudió este lunes la plenaria del Senado de la República durante la elección del nuevo magistrado de la Corte Constitucional. La senadora Angélica Lozano denunció que, pese a que había 102 senadores presentes, se contabilizaron 103 votos, lo que generó sospechas de irregularidades en el proceso.
“Es una situación inédita y vergonzosa. Estamos eligiendo un magistrado de la Corte Constitucional y aparecieron más votos que asistentes en la sala”, afirmó Lozano, quien además señaló que tres senadores estaban ausentes al momento de la votación.
Los candidatos en disputa eran Claudia Dangond, Miguel Polo y Jaime Humberto Tobar. Tras el escrutinio, el resultado mostró un empate entre Dangond y Polo, cada uno con 50 votos, además de dos votos en blanco y un tarjetón sin marcar.
La irregularidad desató críticas en el Senado. Lozano solicitó revisar las grabaciones de seguridad, calificando el incidente como un posible intento de fraude. “Es una trampa introducir votos adicionales”, declaró. Por su parte, el senador Carlos Fernando Motoa, de Cambio Radical, exigió sanciones disciplinarias para esclarecer lo ocurrido.
Ante esta situación, el presidente del Senado, Efraín Cepeda, anuló la votación y convocó a una nueva elección para el martes, con el objetivo de garantizar transparencia en el proceso. Este escándalo pone nuevamente bajo la lupa la credibilidad del Congreso en un momento crucial para la elección de un magistrado en la Corte Constitucional.
