La excapitana de la selección colombiana de fútbol Natalia Gaitán puso fin a su carrera deportiva que la llevó a jugar en España, Estados Unidos y México, informó este lunes la centrocampista.
“Me siento muy orgullosa del camino recorrido y de cómo lo recorrí. Me llevo un sin fin de experiencias y sobre todo personas maravillosas que me acompañaron en este camino. ¡Nos vemos pronto en otra faceta, gracias fútbol!”, señaló Gaitán en redes sociales.
La volante, de 33 años de edad, jugó el primer mundial femenino al que asistió la selección colombiana, en 2011. Luego, cuatro años después, en 2015 en el Mundial de Canadá, fue capitana del equipo que avanzó a la fase de grupos, instancia a la que nunca antes se había llegado.
Su desempeño también le permitió participar con Colombia en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012 y Río 2016. Su mayor logro fue quedar campeona en los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima 2019.
Como jugadora estuvo cinco temporadas con los españoles Valencia CF y Sevilla FC, y luego fue a México con Tigres, con el que salió campeona en 2022.
Al año siguiente regresó a Colombia para vestir los colores de Independiente Santa Fe, con el que jugó la Copa Libertadores y superó una lesión que le permitió disputar la final de la liga femenina 2024 contra el Deportivo Cali.
“Natalia Gaitán, un ‘gracias’ queda corto para el aporte tan inmenso que hiciste al fútbol femenino en Colombia. Para Santa Fe es un honor grabar tu nombre en nuestra gloriosa historia”, fue el mensaje de despedida que hizo el equipo a Gaitán, que estuvo en las canchas 23 años. EFE
